Specializing in trippy, lo-fi guitar pop, Edmonton native Alex Calder first emerged in Vancouver as the drummer for Makeout Videotape, alongside Mac DeMarco. The duo’s hazy, off-kilter sound ran from 2008 to 2010, culminating in Ying Yang, before the project dissolved. Returning to Edmonton, Calder began shaping a more solitary, introspective style—woozy bedroom pop that carried the detached charm of DeMarco’s work but leaned darker and more fragile, drawing comparisons to Nick Drake
